About Patna Women’s College
Patna Women’s College is the first college for women in Bihar, founded in 1940 by Bishop B. J. Sullivan S.J. and Mother M. Josephine A.C. of the Apostolic Carmel. In its early years the college and hostel ran from the Bishop’s own residence at Bankipore before moving to its present campus on Bailey Road. Today it is an autonomous college affiliated to Patna University and has been accredited with an A++ grade by NAAC, one of the highest ratings given to colleges in the country. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in arts, science and commerce, along with vocational and professional subjects such as BCA and BBA. Admission to most programmes is through the college’s own entrance test (PWCET) followed by merit-based counselling, and applications are accepted online. The college focuses on the holistic development of women through academics, research, creative arts, social service and leadership.
